4 varieties of low-growing, weed-suppressing ground cover plants grown locally at our Staffordshire nurseries. The solution for difficult shady areas and low-maintenance planting.
Ground cover plants are the unsung heroes of the garden. They carpet bare soil with evergreen foliage, suppress weeds naturally, stabilise slopes and transform difficult areas into attractive, low-maintenance features. For gardeners looking to reduce time spent weeding, ground cover is the answer.
Our ground cover collection features three excellent genera, each suited to different garden situations. Whether you need dense shade cover under trees, a flowering carpet for sunny banks, or neat edging for borders and paths, we have the right plant for you.
As with all our plants, these ground cover varieties are grown on site at our Staffordshire nurseries. They are tough, well-rooted and ready to spread and establish in your garden.
Weed Suppression
Dense foliage shades out weeds naturally, reducing maintenance dramatically.
Shade Tolerant
Perfect for those tricky areas under trees where grass refuses to grow.
Evergreen
Year-round foliage keeps gardens looking tidy and cared for in every season.
Erosion Control
Root systems bind soil on slopes and banks, preventing erosion and runoff.
Low Maintenance
Once established, ground cover needs very little attention beyond occasional tidying.
The classic ground cover periwinkle, producing trailing stems with attractive flowers. Vinca minor is excellent for covering banks, suppressing weeds under shrubs and creating a lush green carpet in sun or shade. Tough, reliable and virtually indestructible.
One of the finest evergreen ground cover plants for shade. Pachysandra terminalis forms a dense, weed-suppressing carpet of glossy green foliage that thrives under trees and in those difficult shady spots where little else will grow. Low maintenance once established.
A charming low-growing sub-shrub that produces a profusion of small flowers. Parahebe catarractae 'Avalanche' forms neat mounds of evergreen foliage covered in white blooms, ideal for edging paths, rockeries and the front of borders.
Ground cover spacing depends on how quickly you want full coverage. As a general guide, plant Pachysandra and Vinca at 3-5 plants per square metre for coverage within two growing seasons. Our team can calculate exact quantities for your area and advise on the best species for your conditions.
